Pumpkins from Photos |

Carving pumpkins and watermelons from photographs, such as people & animal portraits, famous movie scenes, landmarks, etc. require the most expertise, effort, and time. Services are available to design custom carving patterns or deliver finished custom carved pumpkins/watermelons ready to light and enjoy. Since each custom carving or pattern is unique, cost is quoted individually. From the photo(s), the subject is captured in the form of a pumpkin carving pattern. Developing a high-quality pattern from photographs is an art involving imagination, creativity, and a good eye. Patterns can be designed in 2 or 3-color formats. The pumpkin pattern is then applied to the carving medium (live pumpkin, watermelon, or artificial pumpkin) and the carving begins. |

Supplied photographs The process begins with collecting one or more photos of the subject. Color or black & white photos are acceptable. Photos with more details and contrast (light versus shadowy areas) make for more striking designs. Washed out (pale) photos are more difficult to work with, but normally okay. |
2-color patterns Often refered to as "stencils", the white background remains uncut. Designated areas to be cut through are typically shown in black, but may also be grey. All areas are carved through to allow the light to shine through and illuminate the design, bringing it to life. |
3-color patterns The white background remains uncut. Areas to be cut through are shown in black. Areas to be sculpted are shown in grey (peel away outter skin, leaving the inner flesh). The deeper you sculpt, the brighter the light shines through creating an 3-D photo-realistic image! |
